Police have launched an investigation after two females were assaulted before a flat was set on fire.

A woman aged 41 and a girl aged 16 were attacked on Mill Road, Cambuslang, South Lanarkshire, on Thursday, at around 4.05pm.

Police attended, and the victims were taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow for treatment and later discharged.

A man barricaded himself within a flat and a fire was set before he left the property via the balcony.

He was taken to the QEUH for treatment.

A 34-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident.

Inquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances and officers are appealing for the help of the public.

Detective Inspector Gary Smillie said: “The area was busy at the time and I am appealing to anyone who witnessed this incident and who has not already spoken to police to contact us.

“I would also appeal to anyone who was in the area around the time and who may have dash-cam footage or private CCTV which could assist to get in touch.

“I would also like to extend my thanks to the residents nearby who were impacted by this for their patience and cooperation and the other emergency services for their support.”

Anyone with any information is asked to contact 101 quoting reference 2232 of 16 January, 2025.
