Police searching for man missing after crash say he is safe

Police searching for a man believed to have been injured in a car crash said he has been found safe.

Shane Donnelly, 26, also known by the surname Barr, is believed to have been the driver of one of the cars involved in a crash on the A7, near the Lindean junction, north of Selkirk, Scottish Borders, around 7.10pm on Tuesday.

He was not at the scene when officers arrived and, despite a massive police search using a helicopter and dogs, was not found for four days.

Mr Donnelly, from Galashiels, Scottish Borders, has now been found by police after an appeal urged him to let them know he was safe.

The woman driving the other car involved was taken to Borders General Hospital by ambulance for treatment.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “Thank you for sharing our appeal to trace Shane Donnelly/Barr, who was missing in the Selkirk area since Tuesday 14 January 2025.

“Officers have now spoken to Shane and have no concerns regarding his wellbeing. Enquiries continue however he is no longer being treated as a missing person.

“Thank you again to everyone who assisted with our appeals.”
