Pupils told to stay in school after report of man with suspected weapon in park

School pupils were told to stay inside as police investigated a report of a man with a possible weapon in a park.

Officers were called to the scene in Callendar Park, Falkirk, at around 11am on Friday.

Specialist officers attended as a precaution and the police helicopter was also deployed, but no-one matching the man’s description was found.

Staff and pupils at nearby Graeme High School were asked to stay inside the premises while the incident was investigated by police, and Callendar House on the park’s grounds was closed to the public.

Callendar House has since reopened and school pupils and staff have been advised they can leave the school safely.

Officers remain in attendance and have asked anyone in the area with concerns to speak with them.

A spokesperson for Falkirk Council said: “Earlier today, police officers attended Callendar Park in Falkirk and, as a precaution, Callendar House was closed temporarily to the public. It has now been reopened.

“In addition, pupils and staff from nearby Graeme High School were asked to remain inside while officers dealt with a report of a person acting suspiciously in the park.

“Police Scotland has now advised that the incident has been dealt with.”
