Glen Sannox out of action because of crack in ferry’s hull, CalMac says

Services on a newly launched ferry have been cancelled because of a crack in the ship’s hull.

The Glen Sannox is out of action for the remainder of Friday and Saturday, operator CalMac said on Friday.

It said it would issue an update on Sunday on the ship’s progress, adding that in the meantime its sister vessel Alfred would provide additional services in a bid to help affected travellers.

It said the Alfred’s sailing may be delayed because of the volume of footfall and customers have been advised to book in advance.

CalMac said on their website: “MV Glen Sannox has been removed from service due to an issue with a weld seam on the vessel’s hull close to the waterline.”

A Transport Scotland spokesperson said: “We’re aware that MV Glen Sannox has been removed from service pending further assessment and understand other sailings have been altered to minimise disruption to people and communities.

“We await further updates from CalMac and understand they are working as quickly as possible to restore full services.”
