MV Glen Sannox ‘expected’ to be back in action on Sunday, CalMac says

A ferry operator has said a ship that was taken out of service due to a crack in the hull is expected to return to service on Sunday.

The MV Glen Sannox, which launched in Troon, south Ayrshire in January, was taken out of service on Friday after the crack was discovered.

It remained out of service on Saturday and its sister ship, MV Alfred, provided some additional services in a bid to help the affected travellers.

The Sannox operates between Troon and Arran, with commuters and residents from the mainland and the island depending on it for a number of reasons, including work and leisure.

On Saturday, operator CalMac said repairs have began on the hull and that it anticipates it will return to service on Sunday morning.

A spokesperson said: “The dive inspection has identified a hairline crack on a weld seam on MV Glen Sannox’s hull earlier today and we can confirm repairs are now underway at Brodick and expected to complete later today.

“We anticipate MV Glen Sannox to resume timetabled service on Sunday 16 March and will confirm this evening.

“To provide cover for her absence today, MV Alfred is operating an extra return sailing, and the vast majority of customers originally booked on MV Glen Sannox have been able to travel.”
