A Holyrood committee has opened a consultation on a Bill which would push public bodies to spend more locally.
The Community Wealth Building (Scotland) Bill was published last month and, if passed, could require agencies to buy more goods and services from local companies.
Other measures which could be supported in the legislation would be greater promotion of employee-owned businesses, co-operatives and social enterprises, and action to promote fair work practices such as paying staff the real living wage.
On Friday, the Economy and Fair Work Committee launched a call for views on the Bill.
Convener Colin Smyth said: “Community wealth building approaches have the potential to grow and retain wealth within a local economy, but are the plans introduced by the Scottish Government going to make the difference it hopes?
“How will these impact local community organisations and small businesses?
“If you are responsible for producing local plans, or if you have a stake or interest in community wealth building, we’re keen to hear from you.”
The call for views is due to close on May 23.
