Up to 100,000 Aberdeen fans flock to bus parade after cup final victory

Up to 100,000 Aberdeen fans flocked to watch an open-top bus parade featuring the team’s players in a “fantastic and emotional occasion” celebrating their Scottish Cup win.

Aberdeen beat Celtic in a penalty shoot-out at Hampden Park, Glasgow, on Saturday, winning the cup for the eighth time, the last time being in 1989/90.

Aberdeen City Council bosses estimated around 80,000 to 100,000 Dons fans crowded the city centre on Sunday as the bus made its way to the Town House for a balcony appearance by first-team players.

The bus, led by Texo Deeside Caledonia pipe band, began at Albyn Place, travelling down Union Street, Union Terrace, Schoolhill, and Broad Street, passing the historic Marischal College before finishing at the Town House.

The players were joined by Lord Provost Dr David Cameron.

Dr Cameron said: “The Dons supporters created a fantastic atmosphere as the bus slowly made its way through the city centre – the streets were turned into a sea of red and white.

“The fans were singing and playing drums and, along with the pipe band, made the event into something very special for everyone.

“It was a fantastic and emotional occasion and a very fitting way to mark the Dons winning the Scottish Cup.”
