A gun has been seized near a path by police investigating a suspected gang feud which has gone on for months in Glasgow and Edinburgh.
The spate of violent incidents began in March with firebombings in Edinburgh, and spread to Glasgow and surrounding neighbourhoods in April and May.
An investigation launched into it has been named Operation Portaledge, and as of June 6 at least 42 people had been arrested.
Incidents have involved firebombings, shootings and assaults and Police Scotland previously said a 12-year-old child and a 72-year-old woman were among those attacked.
Targets have included homes and businesses.
Police said at around 11am on Wednesday, officers carrying out inquiries in the Roseburn Path area of Edinburgh – a cycle lane also used by pedestrians – seized a firearm.
Detective Chief Superintendent David Ferry, of the Specialist Crime Division, said: “A number of weapons have now been recovered as part of this operation.
“I hope this latest find helps to reassure the community of our continued resolve to target organised crime.
“Extensive inquiries are ongoing and I urge anyone who knows something that could assist with our investigation to please contact to us.
“Anyone with information relating to these incidents should speak to Police Scotland on 101, or make a call anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
