Man arrested as woman and baby taken to hospital after Edinburgh disturbance

A woman and a baby have been taken to hospital after a “disturbance” in Edinburgh that led to homes being evacuated, police said.

Police Scotland closed off St Leonard’s Street after being called out at 9am on Saturday.

Specialist police and firearms officers attended the scene, arresting a 46-year-old man in connection with the incident.

A woman, 38, and a baby were taken to hospital as a precaution.

Nearby homes were evacuated due to the incident and bus diversions were put in place after the road was sealed off.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 9am on Saturday, June 21, we were called to a report of a disturbance at a property on St Leonard’s Street, Edinburgh.

“Specialist officers, including firearms officers, attended and a 46-year-old man has been arrested in connection with causing a disturbance.

“A 38-year-old woman and a baby were taken to hospital as a precaution.

“Inquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.”
