Motorcyclist dies in hospital two days after crash

A motorcyclist has died two days after a two-vehicle crash in Dumfries and Galloway.

The collision happened on the A76 Dumfries to Kilmarnock road near Mennock at around 6.50pm on Monday.

Police said the motorcyclist, a 55-year-old man, was taken by air ambulance to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow but he died on Wednesday.

The car driver, a 45-year-old woman, was not injured.

Police are appealing for information about the crash, which involved a black Vauxhall Antara and a Yamaha FZ1 Fazer motorbike.

Sergeant Colin Ramage, of the road policing unit in Lockerbie, said: “Our thoughts are with the man’s family and they have asked for privacy at what is a very difficult time for them.

“Our inquiries are continuing to establish the full circumstances and I would urge anyone with information who has not yet spoken to officers to get in touch, especially if you have dashcam footage that could assist.”

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101, quoting incident number 3164 of August 18.
