Girl, 15, sexually assaulted on train

Police have appealed for witnesses after a 15-year-old girl was sexually assaulted on a train travelling from Edinburgh to Aberdeen.

Other passengers intervened when they saw the “distress” of the teenager during the incident, which happened between 9pm and 9.30pm on Sunday August 24.

Police have described the suspect as a white man aged in his 40s or 50s, around 5ft 10in and with short dirty blond hair. He was wearing a pink shirt and beige shorts.

The man was removed from the train at Inverkeithing in Fife.

Police have said they would like to speak to members of the public who intervened to help the girl, and to anyone else who witnessed the incident, saying they may have information that could help the investigation.

Anyone who witnessed the incident is asked to contact British Transport Police by texting 61016 or by calling 0800 40 50 40, quoting reference 541 of August 25.

Alternatively, they can contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
