Swinney’s adviser seeks Aberdeen Central seat

A special adviser to John Swinney has announced plans to seek a Holyrood seat.

Jack Middleton – who has served as an adviser to the First Minister and his predecessor Humza Yousaf – will look to replace outgoing MSP Kevin Stewart as the candidate for Aberdeen Central.

Mr Stewart announced on Monday he will not be standing at the election next year, despite having already been selected as the candidate, saying he is “not 100% physically fit” after an illness.

In a post on X, Mr Middleton – who previously worked in communications for the SNP – announced his plans to run for the nomination and praised Mr Stewart’s work in Holyrood.

“I’ve learnt from Kevin what it takes to be an honest, hard grafting MSP,” he said.

“We need someone to take up that mantle and prioritise independence.

“As a proud Aberdonian, I believe I’m the fresh voice who can do just that.”
