Police have launched a murder investigation after the death of a man in Airdrie.
Officers attended Hamilton Drive in the North Lanarkshire town around 12.15am on Thursday after receiving a report about two men being injured.
A 30-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.
A second man, aged 27, was in a stable condition at Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow on Friday evening.
Detective Chief Inspector Bob Williamson from Police Scotland’s major investigation team said the family and friends of the man who died are being provided with support.
He said: “An extensive investigation is being carried out, including door-to-door inquiries, and we are examining CCTV footage of the area.
“We urge anyone with any information to contact us. Any information, no matter how small it may seem, could be vital.”
Local area commander Chief Inspector Lesley Docherty added: “We understand the significant impact this will have on the community and we would like to thank everyone for their help so far.
“We would like to reassure you that everything is being done to trace who is responsible.
“Officers remain in the area as inquiries continue. Anyone with any concerns can speak to officers.”
Police have set up an online portal to encourage the public to submit information directly to officers.
