Human remains identified after non-suspicious house fire

A fire at a house where human remains were found several days later is not being treated as suspicious, police said.

Four fire engines went to the scene in Seatown, Gardenstown, in Aberdeenshire when the alarm was raised just before 5am on Thursday September 18.

A man was taken to hospital after the fire in the seaside village, while a woman who was inside the building was reported missing.

Human remains were recovered from the property on Tuesday September 23.

Police said formal identification has now taken place and the family of the woman who was inside the house have been informed.

Officers said the fire is not being treated as suspicious.
