Boy, nine, flown to hospital after being hit by car on Benbecula

A nine-year-old boy is in a serious condition after being hit by a car on the island of Benbecula in the Outer Hebrides.

He was airlifted to the Royal Hospital for Children in Glasgow following the incident on Wednesday.

Medics say his condition is serious but stable.

He was struck by a Mitsubishi car whilst crossing the B892 in Balivanich at 4.40pm.

Police have appealed for information and have asked the driver of the car to contact them.

Sergeant Christopher Donaldson said: “We are keen to hear from anyone who may have been in the area around the time, especially those who have dashcam as footage captured may assist our investigation.

“We believe a brown car passed the child, who was with his young friend at the time, just prior to the incident.

“We’d be grateful if that driver would contact police as well.”

The road was closed while an investigation took place.
