Police appeal for information after man’s body found near Highland village

Police are treating as “unexplained” the death of a 52-year-old man whose body was found near a village in the Highlands on Thursday morning.

The man’s remains were discovered close to a cycle path south of the Ballachulish roundabout, near the village of Ballachulish, at about 10.25am.

Officers said that based on their inquiries so far, the man had left the Ballachulish Hotel at about 8.30pm on Monday, with the intention of walking along the footpath alongside the A82 south towards the village.

Police said his death is being treated as unexplained, but that it is not believed to be suspicious.

They confirmed his next of kin is aware.

Detective Inspector Bilton said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the man who died.

“Inquiries are at an early stage and we are appealing for the help of the public to establish the last movements of the man as he made his way from the Ballachulish Hotel.

“I would urge anyone who was driving on the A82 around this time to think back – did you see someone in the area?

“I am asking anyone with dashcam footage from this time to get in touch.”
