Driver who died when truck collided with HGV named by police

A man who died when his pick-up truck crashed with an HGV has been named by police.

Sam Cropper, 36, died on Tuesday when his truck collided with a lorry, near Langholm, Dumfries and Galloway.

The crash happened around 11.35am near Briery Bank, and involved a green Toyota Hilux and a white Scania HGV.

Mr Cropper, from Newcastleton, was pronounced dead at the scene, and his passenger, a man aged 55, was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

The passenger’s condition was described as stable by medics.

The driver of the white Scania HGV was not injured.

The road was closed to allow for investigations to be carried out and was fully reopened around 11.55pm.

Sergeant Colin Ramage said: “Our thoughts remain with Sam’s family and friends at this difficult time, as well as the man who suffered serious injuries.

“We continue to carry out extensive inquiries into this crash and I’d appeal to anyone with information or dashcam footage to come forward.”
