An 18-year-old man has died in a crash on the Black Isle, which left two other people seriously injured.
Emergency services were called to the A9 at Culbokie, south of the Cromarty Bridge, at around 9.40pm on Monday.
The crash involved a white Ford Transit van and a black Ford Focus.
An 18-year-old man was taken to hospital, where he died a short time later.
Police said an 18-year-old woman and a 20-year-old man were also taken to hospital with serious injuries.
Another man, aged 50, has been arrested in connection with the incident and has been released pending further inquiries.
Sergeant Kate Finlayson said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the man who died at this extremely difficult time.
“I am appealing to anyone who witnessed the crash or saw the vehicles prior to get in touch with officers.
“I’d also ask that anyone with dash-cam footage who were driving in the area at the time review this to see if it has captured anything that could assist with our investigation.”
The road reopened on Tuesday morning.
