Police are investigating following a serious sexual assault in a wooded area in Kirkcaldy.
The incident took place between 2am and 5am on Sunday behind Abbots Mill.
The woman did not require hospital treatment.
Detective Inspector Samantha Davidson said: “This was a terrible ordeal for the woman, and we are doing everything we can to trace the man responsible.
“Extensive enquiries are ongoing and I would ask anyone who was in the area in the early hours of Sunday morning who may have seen something suspicious to get in touch with us.”
Chief Inspector Michael Booker said: “I understand an incident such as this is concerning for the local community, and we have a dedicated enquiry team working on this investigation.
“Anyone with concerns should speak to officers without hesitation.
“There will be an increased police presence in the area with officers conducting high visibility patrols, and I would urge anyone with information or concerns to approach them.”
Information can be provided to police by calling 101, quoting reference number 1046 of December 7.
