First Minister John Swinney has urged Scots to get outdoors this festive season as he unveiled his self-taken Christmas card photo.
Taken before he took over the top job in 2024 during a walk on the banks of Loch Ossian on Rannoch Moor, the First Minister said he “felt a moment of peace and clarity” during his hike.
“Taking in the crisp Highland air and the sights around me is something I will never forget – standing there by the side of the loch, surrounded by nature, suddenly gave me a new perspective,” the First Minister said.
“The value of getting outdoors and interacting with nature for our physical and mental wellbeing cannot be understated.
“The photograph I took that day – the image I have chosen for my Christmas card this year – is one that reminds me just how powerfully moving Scotland’s beautiful natural landscapes can be.
“We are living through uncertain, challenging times, and the importance of connection is greater than ever – to nature and to those around us.
“This festive season, I would encourage everyone to make your way outdoors if you are able to, even just for a short time, to make the most of what our uniquely beautiful natural environment has to offer.”
