Second person dies after two-vehicle crash in Fife

A second person has died after they were involved in a two-vehicle crash in Fife.

A black Nissan Qashqai and a white Volkswagen Polo crashed on the B981 between Cluny and the roundabout at Chapel junction on Friday at 11.10pm.

Emergency services attended and the driver of the Polo, a 48-year-old woman, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The three passengers in the Polo were taken to hospital for treatment, one of whom, a 64-year-old man, died on Sunday morning.

The driver of the Qashqai, a 33-year-old woman, was arrested in connection with a road traffic offence and was also taken to hospital, but has since been discharged.

The road was closed to allow inquiries to be carried out and was reopened at around 6.30am on Saturday.

Sergeant Louise Birrell said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the woman and man who died.

“Inquiries into the crash are ongoing, and I am appealing to anyone who was in the area and witnessed anything around the time to contact officers.

“I’d also ask that those with private CCTV or dashcam footage which may assist to please review this to see if it has captured anything of significance.”

Anyone with any information is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101 quoting incident 3935 of Friday, 19 December 2025.
