A man and a dog have died after a fire broke out at a block of flats in Fife early on Christmas Eve.

Firefighters were called out to Brodie Court in Glenrothes just after 1.20am.

A joint investigation with the police is now under way to determine the cause of the blaze.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: “Around 1.30am on Wednesday December 24 2025, we were called to a report of a fire at a property in the Brodie Court area of Glenrothes.

“Emergency services attended and a man was found within the property. He was pronounced dead at the scene. A dog also died as a result of the fire.

“A joint investigation is ongoing to establish the full circumstances.”

A spokesman for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: “We mobilised three appliances from Glenrothes and Kirkcaldy fire stations.”

The fire crews extinguished the flames and left the scene at about 3.15am.
