Youth held over alleged hate crime among six arrested in Edinburgh on Hogmanay

A teenager has been arrested in connection with an alleged hate crime and allegedly possessing an offensive weapon in Edinburgh on Hogmanay.

The 17-year-old was arrested on Frederick Street in the city centre.

He was one of six people arrested on New Year’s Eve in Edinburgh.

Police said a man, whose age was not specified, has been charged in connection with offences relating to allegedly flying a drone.

A temporary airspace restriction was in place banning any unmanned aircraft from flying below 2,000ft above sea level within one nautical mile of Edinburgh Castle between 6pm on December 31 and 2am on January 1.

Police said three other men, aged 22, 26 and 42, were arrested for alleged minor public order offences, while a 37-year old man was arrested for an outstanding warrant.
