Three people rescued after being cut off by tide on island

Three people have been rescued by lifeboat after they were cut off by the tide on an island in the Firth of Forth.

The group dialled 999 when they realised they were stranded on Cramond Island just after 11am on Friday.

The island is connected to the mainland by a causeway – but the tide came in and covered it while the group were on the island.

The RNLI Queensferry inshore lifeboat went to the scene and brought the trio back to shore at Cramond Village, the coastguard said.

South Queensferry Coastguard Rescue Team also went to the scene.

The three people were back on shore by around noon and were said to be safe and well after the incident.

The coastguard advised people to check tide times before crossing the causeway to the island.
