Pedestrian, 85, dies after collision with van

An 85-year-old woman has died after being struck by a van.

The pedestrian died in hospital after a collision in Stranraer, Dumfries and Galloway, on Saturday.

She was on foot when a white Vauxhall Vivaro van collided with her at around 10.20am on Sheuchan Street, near the junction with Park Lane.

Emergency services attended and the woman was taken to hospital, but she later died. No-one else was injured.

The road was closed for crash investigation work and reopened at around 7.15pm.

Sergeant Scott Costley said: “Our thoughts are with the family of the woman who died and inquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.

“We are asking anyone who saw what happened to get in touch.

“Also, if you were driving in the area please check any dashcam footage you have to see if it has captured something that could assist with our investigation.”

If you can help, please call Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 0840 of Saturday January 3.
