The family of a “beloved” Scot who died climbing a Swiss mountain have launched a fundraiser to help the rescue team which tried to save his life.
Andy McGlinn, 50, died on Mount Rigi in central Switzerland on Sunday.
The Alps mountain is known as the Queen of the Mountains and is surrounded by Lake Lucerne, Lake Zug and Lake Lauerz.
Mr McGlinn’s family have since launched a GoFundMe to raise funds for Rega, the Swiss air-rescue service.
In a statement posted on GoFundMe, the family wrote: “Our beloved Andy McGlinn, only 50 years old, passed away suddenly last Sunday while doing what he loved on the Rigi.
“Andy was a kind, generous, and humorous soul — always there for his friends and family, offering support, laughter, and love in every moment.
“His family, including those traveling from Scotland, are coming together to celebrate his life in Zurich. We are raising funds to support Rega who did everything they could to save him.
“Any contribution, big or small, will help honour Andy’s memory. Thank you for your kindness and support.”
