A man has died after falling from the window of a tower block during a fire in the building.
He was pronounced dead at the scene of the incident in Shields Drive, Motherwell, North Lanarkshire, on Thursday night.
Police say they are working to establish the full circumstances.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We received a report of a fire within a property on Shields Drive in Motherwell around 10.20pm on Thursday March 5.
“Emergency services attended and a man was seen having fallen from the window of a property. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
“The fire was extinguished by the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service and no-one else was injured.
“Inquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.”
The fire service said it sent nine fire engines and specialist appliances to the scene when the alarm was raised just after 10pm.
The blaze was extinguished and one fire engine remained at the scene at 6.30am on Friday.
