A delighted Scotland fan aims to buy tickets to watch the national team play at the World Cup after winning more than £52,000 in the People’s Postcode Lottery.
Ryan Stewart, 39, had already planned to travel across the Atlantic to watch Scotland return to the tournament this summer, but is now able to afford the highly sought-after tickets.
The father-of-two and 16 others in Dunfermline, Fife, all shared a £1 million prize pot when their postcode won the Millionaire Street prize.
He won a total of £52,631.
Mr Stewart, who works for Network Rail, said: “I’ve got flights and accommodation booked, but I’m just lacking the tickets. This win will certainly help.
“I’m in the Scotland travel club and try to get to as many games as I can. I managed to get to the Euros a couple of years ago and it was brilliant.
“But I was just 11 when we qualified for France ’98 and I can’t afford to wait for another World Cup to come around again as I might be too old to enjoy it.
“I decided I was going regardless of whether I had tickets for the matches.
“The Euros was a brilliant experience and now, thanks to this, I’ll be able to get some match tickets and tick the World Cup box off as well.”
He was on a train to London when he found out the good news about his lottery ticket.
He added: “My wife Ashley and I have been talking about getting the kitchen done up so some of the money will go towards that – and I’m going to the World Cup too.”
