Family in tribute to father killed while cycling in Shetland

The family of a cyclist who died following a collision involving a car in Shetland have paid tribute to him.

The crash happened on the B9074 on the island of Trondra at around 10pm on Saturday March 21.

Police on Thursday named the cyclist as Victor Duncan, 51. He was taken to hospital but was pronounced dead a short time later.

His family paid tribute to him as a loving husband and father, police said.

Officers are appealing for information about the crash, which involved a black Ford Ranger.

Sergeant Ewan Calder said: “My thoughts are with the family and friends of Mr Duncan and we continue to offer support to them.

“I’d like to thank the local community for their patience and understanding while inquiries were carried out.

“We appreciate this is the main route to and from the south west of the island and there was significant disruption with the closure.

“Our inquiries remain ongoing and I’d ask anyone with information, who has not already spoken to police, to come forward.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101, quoting reference 3319 of March 21.

The road was closed for crash investigations and fully reopened at around 5.15pm on Sunday.
