A man suffered life-threatening injuries in a car crash  in the early hours of Saturday, police have said.

Police Scotland said officers were called to Chesser Avenue in Edinburgh at about 12.21am after a report of a incident involving a blue MG HS car and a pedestrian.

The 49-year-old male pedestrian was taken to hospital. Police said the 35-year-old female driver of the car was not hurt.

Sergeant Fraser Mitchell said: “Our inquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances and I am appealing for anyone with information to get in touch.

“I would ask anyone who was in the area around the time of the collision to contact us, especially those who may have dash cam footage that could assist with our inquiries.”
