Murder investigation after death of woman, 82, as police hunt ‘dangerous’ man

A murder investigation has been launched following the death of an 82-year-old woman in Glasgow.

The investigation comes after police began searching for a “dangerous” missing man who was last seen in the area where she died.

Elizabeth Colligan, 82, was found injured on Cardowan Road in the Carntyne area of the city at around 4am on Saturday.

She was pronounced dead at the scene after emergency services were called to the area.

Grant McKinnon, 30, was last seen in the same area at the same time.

Police have described him as “dangerous” and warned members of the public not to approach the missing man, saying they should instead call 999.

Detective Inspector Gordon Walker said: “Our thoughts remain with Elizabeth’s family and friends during this very difficult time. We are continuing to offer them our support as the investigation progresses.

“Officers are following a positive line of enquiry and work is ongoing to establish the full circumstances of what has happened.

“This includes door-to-door enquiries in the local area, as well as a detailed review of all available CCTV footage.

“We are especially keen to speak with anyone who saw or heard anything around 4am on Saturday April 18 2026.

Chief Inspector Jon Watters said: “We understand that this will be concerning for the local community and we want to reassure the public that extensive enquiries are under way.

“There will continue to be an increased police presence in the area over the coming days, and anyone with information or concerns is encouraged to speak with officers.”

Anyone with any information has been asked to contact Police Scotland on 101 quoting incident 0523 of April 18.
