Officers have ordered groups of people to leave Glasgow city centre 438 times since a dispersal zone was introduced in the city a month ago, police have confirmed.
In total, 43 people have been arrested under the powers, which allow officers to direct groups of two or more people to leave the zone if their behaviour is impacting on the safety and wellbeing of others.
Those directed to leave are not permitted to return for a period of 24 hours.
The zone covers an area bounded by St Vincent Place, Glassford Street/Stockwell Street, to the far side of the riverbank, and York Street/West Campbell Street.
Of the 43 arrested for allegedly breaching dispersal directions, 14 were also arrested in connection with other offences.
These include alleged breach of the peace, drugs possession, police assault, possession of an offensive weapon, and two in connection with alleged sexual assault.
Superintendent Jackie Dunbar said: “These powers provide officers with an additional tool to address anti-social behaviour and help keep people safe in the city centre and are used proportionately and only when necessary.
“The majority of those who have been issued with warnings have been adults, with very few instances involving those under the age of 16.
“We are continuing to engage with local residents, businesses and partners and feedback so far has been mostly positive.
“Our focus remains on ensuring Glasgow city centre is a safe and welcoming place for everyone.”
