A man has died in a road crash involving a car and a lorry.
The man was driving a Vauxhall Corsa eastbound on the A71 in Kilmarnock, East Ayrshire, when it was in collision with a lorry parked in a lay-by between the Moorfield and Bellfield roundabouts.
He was the only occupant of the car and died at the scene of the crash, which occurred at about 3.45am on Wednesday. The male lorry driver was not injured.
A report on the crash will be submitted to the procurator fiscal.
Sergeant Stewart Taylor said: “Although the crash happened in the early hours of this morning, this road is the main arterial route between Kilmarnock and Irvine so it’s possible that other vehicles were on the road at the time who may have either seen the crash happen or have information that will assist officers with their inquiries.
“Any information, including dashcam footage, can be passed to officers via 101. Please quote reference number 0377 of Wednesday November 16 when calling.”
