Colchester produced a remarkable late comeback to snatch a 2-2 draw at League Two leaders Leyton Orient.
The hosts had gone in front with goals by George Moncur and Ruel Sotiriou but the struggling visitors struck twice in three minutes at the death through Connor Hall and Noah Chilvers.
Paul Smyth, who picked up the EFL Player of the Year at the London PFA Awards earlier in the week, wriggled into the penalty area in the 33rd minute before being brought down by Fiacre Kelleher.
One-time U’s midfielder Moncur stepped forward to send his spot-kick into the bottom left corner for his seventh goal of the campaign.
The lead was doubled after 68 minutes when a sublime piece of close skill by Sotiriou took him past a defender before sending his shot from the right side of the box low into the near corner.
However, Orient switched off and in the 89th minute Hall nodded in a corner before Chilvers equalised with a 20-yard drive shortly after.
