Gateshead defender Robbie Tinkler’s own goal gifted 10-man Rochdale a 1-0 away victory in the National League.
Dale defender Sam Beckwith was sent off in the 53rd minute for a second yellow card.
But Rochdale found the winner two minutes later, with Connor McBride delivering into the box and Tinkler slicing his clearance over his own goalkeeper and into the net.
The win left Rochdale sixth in the table, four points behind fifth-placed Gateshead.
