AFC Wimbledon up to second after beating Gillingham

Matty Stevens scored his 12th goal of the season as AFC Wimbledon moved into second place in the League Two table with a 1-0 win over Gillingham.

Josh Neufville launched several dangerous deliveries into the box during the first half, the best of which fell to Romaine Sawyers, who turned the cross goalward.

His effort was going wide until Stevens got a touch on it to force an outstanding close-range save from Gills goalkeeper Glenn Morris.

However, the Dons’ top scorer left Morris with no chance five minutes after half-time when he thumped James Tilley’s corner into the net.

Elliott Nevitt pounced on a loose pass before firing the ball over the crossbar as the Gills went on the hunt for an equaliser.

Armani Little almost found the top right corner with a free-kick from the edge of the box, but Owen Goodman got a hand to it.

Goodman produced an outrageous stop with his left leg while outside of his box shortly after to deny Aaron Rowe a shot at an empty goal.
