Jack Muldoon inspires Harrogate to long-awaited victory

Jack Muldoon scored one and set up another as Harrogate boosted their League Two survival hopes with a 2-0 win at Barrow.

The Sulphurites had lost six of their previous seven games and collected only one point from a possible 21 to slip towards the relegation zone.

But they were worthy winners in Cumbria, shading the first half and then striking twice in six second half-minutes to move five points clear of the bottom two.

Muldoon, who headed over during Town’s early dominance, glanced in a 56th-minute opener for his first league goal of the campaign.

He then produced a superb pass to free Josh March who outsmarted substitute Neo Eccleston before firing home with a low left-foot shot from 20 yards.

Barrow were given chance to hit back with a 75th-minute penalty following Warren Burrell’s foul on Kian Spence.

However, Connor Mahoney failed to register his first goal for the Cumbrians as he fired his effort high over the crossbar.

Charlie Kirk had a shot blocked and Ged Garner’s header was saved by James Belshaw as Harrogate successfully defended their lead.
