Huddersfield hit back to beat Barnsley and boost play-off bid

Huddersfield came from behind to boost their play-off hopes with a 2-1 Yorkshire derby win at Barnsley.

The Terriers scored twice in three minutes in the second half through Josh Koroma and Ben Wiles to cancel out Jon Russell’s opener for the hosts, whose winless run now stretches to six games.

Both sides looked lively from the off at Oakwell and it was not long before the deadlock was broken.

Russell strode forward with the ball from the halfway line before curling an effort into the bottom right corner in the 14th minute.

Huddersfield had chances late in the half through Tawanda Chirewa and Dion Charles, but the hosts led at the break.

In the second half, however, the Terriers took control, turning the game on its head in double-quick fashion.

Substitute Koroma drew his side level with a neat finish in the 59th minute before, two minutes later, Wiles’ deep free-kick evaded everyone in the area and crept in at the back post.

Barnsley were deflated by the blow and could not respond as their own play-off hopes suffered another setback.
