Ollie Pearce maintained his hot scoring streak as promotion-chasing York beat Hartlepool 1-0 in the Vanarama National League.
Pearce fired home his 22nd goal of the season, and his sixth in five games, after Malachi Fagan-Walcott’s pass was deflected into his path by a home defender in the 40th minute.
York, in second place and trailing leaders Barnet by six points, thought they had opened the scoring in the fourth minute, but Lewis Richardson’s finish was ruled out for offside.
Luke Charman went close for the hosts when his header was pushed on to a post by York goalkeeper Harrison Male.
Gary Madine was unable to convert from close range for Hartlepool, who remain firmly entrenched in mid-table.
