Accrington boost survival hopes with victory over MK Dons

Accrington boosted their survival bid with a 2-0 win over out-of-form MK Dons.

MK Dons parted company with manager Scott Lindsey on Sunday after a run of eight defeats in their last 12 games and interim manager Ben Gladwin could not turn their fortunes around.

There was not a lot in the game until Stanley opened the scoring on 24 minutes.

Seb Quirk’s deep cross from the left was headed home by the unmarked Tyler Walton from eight yards for his eighth goal of the season.

Stanley were the ones creating the main chances and they got a second on 39 minutes when Charlie Caton headed the ball to Joe O’Brien-Whitmarsh on the edge of the area and the Southampton loanee fired low into the corner of the net for his first EFL goal.

While MK Dons upped the tempo after the break they did not have a shot on target and it is now seven games without a win – and six defeats in that spell – as the 18th-placed side are looking over their shoulders.
