Owen Bailey earns Doncaster a point at Crewe

Owen Bailey’s header salvaged a point for Doncaster in a 1-1 draw at promotion rivals Crewe.

Grant McCann’s side trailed to Connor O’Riordan’s 10th-minute strike and, despite their second-half comeback, like Crewe, they are without a win in their last three outings.

Jamie Knight-Lebel drove an early effort across the face of the Doncaster goal and the visitors were found wanting with their defending at a free-kick lofted into the box which Zac Williams flicked on. O’Riordan was on the spot to bundle the ball home from close range.

Rob Street curled an effort wide as Rovers responded, but they nearly fell further behind when Adam Conway skipped past two defenders and delivered a telling cross which Kane Hemmings headed goalwards but goalkeeper Teddy Sharman-Lowe did well to turn around.

Luke Molyneux raced onto a long ball and although the Rovers attacker got a touch to the ball at full stretch, his effort sailed over.

Hemmings drove a tame effort straight at Sharman-Lowe, who was busy again making saves either side of the break to keep out efforts from Joel Tabiner.

Doncaster substitute Patrick Kelly hit a low drive past the far post, but they were back on level terms from another poorly-defended set-piece in the 75th minute as Bailey powered home a header from Molyneux’s inswinging corner.

Both sides went for a winner, with Conway’s flick on a corner flying just wide and Sharman-Lowe holding onto a drive from Matus Holicek after a clever back-heel from substitute Omar Bogle set up the forward. Doncaster substitute Ethan Ennis went even closer when his deflected effort curled against the far post.
