Ten-man Blackpool end Huddersfield unbeaten start for first win of season

Ten-man Blackpool claimed their first win of the season as they saw out a 3-2 victory over previously unbeaten Huddersfield.

A frantic first half featured five goals and a red card, with Ben Wiles’ deflected strike opening the scoring for the visitors in the fourth minute.

Niall Ennis equalised against the run of play after exploiting Jack Whatmough’s mistake on the halfway line, before a rattled Huddersfield proceeded to let Lee Evans go free on the edge of the box to put Blackpool ahead.

Ennis made it 3-1 by poking home off George Honeyman’s dink into the box, but Lynden Gooch blasted home a response to give Huddersfield hope.

A needless high challenge from Ennis then reduced Blackpool to 10 men with 36 minutes played and Blackpool 3-2 ahead, setting up a tense second half of attack vs defence.

The hosts were forced to spend much of their time defending their own box, punctuated by only the occasional counter-attack – but Steve Bruce’s side completed their task superbly, successfully resisting Huddersfield’s efforts to find an equaliser.
