Gillingham strike late to share points with hosts Tranmere

Tranmere and Gillingham maintained their unbeaten starts to the League Two season following a 1-1 draw at Prenton Park.

Omari Patrick’s second goal in as many games appeared to have given Andy Crosby’s side successive victories, but substitute Joe Gbode struck deep into stoppage time to rescue a point for the visitors.

The home side began brightly and might have gone ahead inside four minutes when Josh Davison met Cameron Norman’s cross, only to direct his header over the crossbar.

Gillingham’s threat was limited before the break, with Robbie McKenzie heading wide from an Armani Little centre.

The opening 45 minutes produced just one effort on target, Charlie Whitaker testing Glenn Morris from distance, while Taylan Harris wasted a good chance by firing over from close range.

Tranmere eventually made the breakthrough on 63 minutes, Patrick racing onto Kristian Dennis’s fine through pass and finishing smartly from 10 yards.

But Gillingham refused to surrender and snatched an equaliser in the second minute of added time, Gbode pouncing after the hosts failed to clear a corner.
