Evan Khouri rewrote a tale of two goalkeepers as Grimsby moved up to second in League Two following a 1-0 win at Walsall.
A blood-and-thunder clash saw stoppers Myles Roberts and Christy Pym pull off spectacular saves and while Jaze Kabia got the better of Roberts, only to be denied by Aden Flint on the line, Khouri rifled the rebound into the roof of the net in the 68th minute.
There was a brisk tempo from the off with the already-busy Pym shovelling out a low centre before denying Charlie Lakin, 26 minutes in.
Khouri contrived to clear the crossbar from 20 yards with Roberts out of his goal before Pym somehow repelled a point-blank header from Jamie Jellis.
Roberts matched those heroics a minute later, deflecting Kabia’s rising drive enough to graze the woodwork, while Jellis ballooned over Connor Barrett’s square pass in first-half stoppage-time.
Dan Cox stepped forward with a dipping 25-yard swing that hit the top of the crossbar on its way over for Walsall.
Lakin cleared the crossbar when well placed shortly before the goal, with Albert Adomah denied a leveller by the offside flag as Grimsby stood firm.
