Notts County hit back from behind to end Tranmere’s unbeaten start

Notts County came from behind to end Tranmere’s unbeaten League Two start with a 2-1 win at Prenton Park.

Omari Patrick put the hosts ahead on the stroke of half-time, but second-half strikes from Matthew Dennis and substitute Kellan Gordon turned the game in County’s favour.

Clear chances were scarce in a scrappy opening period. Charlie Whitaker’s long-range effort flew harmlessly over, before Patrick’s strike from the edge of the box was also wayward.

Patrick made amends in the 45th minute, however, finishing smartly from 10 yards after Whitaker’s fine work down the right.

County responded quickly after the break, Dennis sliding home a Tom Iorpenda cross just four minutes into the second half.

Patrick almost restored Rovers’ advantage with a dipping effort that was tipped over the bar.

The Magpies completed the turnaround on 62 minutes when Gordon fired into an empty net after Luke McGee had initially denied Dennis.

Rovers pressed late on, Patrick again going close, but County held firm to claim a first away victory of the campaign.
