Bristol Rovers hold on to edge League Two win over Barrow

Bristol Rovers made it four Sky Bet League Two wins in a row as they saw off Barrow 2-1 at the Memorial Stadium.

All the damage was done in the first half.

After a slow start Josh McEachran’s deep cross-cum-shot floated into the top corner of Wyll Stanway’s goal from wide on Rovers’ left after 16 minutes, following a Joel Senior corner being cleared back out to the Gas midfielder.

It was the first shot on target in the match and a first goal for the club – and since 2018 – for McEachran.

Barrow were hampered by Charlie Raglan going off with an injury after 19 minutes as Connor Mahoney took his place.

And the lead was doubled just before the half-hour mark when Promise Omochere won an aerial duel to meet Jack Sparkes’ cross at the far post, with the ball dropping for Fabrizio Cavegn to sweep in from close range.

Substitute Mahoney reduced the deficit after 69 minutes, with Rovers too slow to stop Elliot Newby crossing, as he steered a header into the corner.

But it was not enough as the hosts held on for maximum points.
