Jack Marriott cancelled out Kyle Wootton’s opener as Reading came from behind to draw 1-1 at Stockport.
The hosts began the game brightly and went close to opening the scoring after four minutes when Brad Hills powered a header against the top of the crossbar from a corner.
Reading responded and missed a big chance of their own when Daniel Kyerewaa, sent clean through on goal, miscontrolled under pressure.
Reading struggled to combat the physicality of Stockport in the first half and fell behind after 22 minutes when Ben Osborn’s centre was headed across goal by Tyler Onyango for Wootton to tap home from close range.
Matty Jacob’s fierce strike fizzed narrowly wide of Stockport’s goal before goalkeeper Ben Hinchcliffe tipped a Jeriel Dorsett effort over the bar as Reading pressed for an equaliser after half-time.
The visitors’ pressure told after 73 minutes when Marriott finished off a sweeping Reading counter-attack.
Wootton’s powerful effort was kept out by away goalkeeper Joel Pereira as Stockport went in search of a winning goal, but Reading held on comfortably to secure a point.
