David Ogbonna scored one and made one as National League strugglers Sutton beat National League North side Telford 2-1 in the FA Cup first round to end an 11-game wait for a victory.
The visitors twice called upon home keeper Tommy Reid, who had to deny Matthew Stenson and Thakgalo Leshabela, in a promising start to the game.
However, it was the hosts who went ahead six minutes before the break when Jayden Harris cut inside after accepting Junior Eccleston’s pass and crossed for Ogbonna to flick past keeper Josh Gracey.
Ogbonna turned provider nine minutes after the restart when he set up Ashley Nadesan to tap home at the far post and, although Ricardo Dinanga headed Telford back into it from Ammar Dyer’s cross with 26 minutes remaining, Sutton saw the game out to progress.
