Danny Elliott hat-trick helps Macclesfield win nine-goal thriller against Totton

Danny Elliott scored a first-half hat-trick as John Rooney’s Macclesfield overcame Totton 6-3 to reach the second round of the FA Cup.

Both sides scored twice in the opening 17 minutes, with Elliott twice putting Macclesfield ahead and Tony Lee and Scott Rendell equalising.

Rendell, the veteran 39-year-old forward, gave Totton the lead with a superb volley after 27 minutes before Elliott completed his hat-trick nine minutes later following good work from D’Mani Mellor.

Skipper Paul Dawson struck moments after the restart and Rollin Menayese rifled into the roof of the net to give National League North side Macclesfield breathing space.

Lewis Fensome added a stunning sixth 11 minutes from time as Rooney, younger brother of Wayne, claimed a memorable cup victory.
