Burton hit reeling St Albans for six in FA Cup

League One Burton Albion eased past Isthmian Premier Division side St Albans City 6-0 to progress to the second round of the FA Cup.

Tyrese Shade, Charlie Webster and Fabio Tavares all grabbed braces as Albion eased to victory at the Pirelli Stadium.

After a tumultuous week behind the scenes at St Albans, with manager Ian Culverhouse leaving for King’s Lynn, the last thing they needed was to concede early but Shade’s finish after 58 seconds left them with an uphill task from the outset.

Yet the non-league side remained well in the game at half-time and they hit a post inside the opening 30 seconds of the second period from Harrison Smith’s header.

It proved a pivotal moment.

Albion doubled their lead a minute later when Webster lashed in from 10 yards.

The former Chelsea midfielder then marked his 50th Burton appearance with a driving run and unerring finish into the bottom corner in the 56th minute.

Shade’s final contribution before being substituted was to score Albion’s fourth, firing in from a tight angle with 10 minutes left.

His replacement Jack Newall set up Fabio Tavares for Burton’s fifth with his first touch.

And Tavares rounded off the scoring with the last kick of the game, slotting home from Sulyman Krubally’s pass.
